On September 27, 2012, Conservative Member of Parliament Mark Warawa announced that he plans to introduce a motion to condemn discrimination against females via sex-selective pregnancy termination.
The motion reads: “That the House condemn discrimination against females occurring through sex-selective pregnancy termination.”
Mr. Warawa explains that recent studies have shown that the practice of aborting females in favour of males is happening in Canada and that 92% of Canadians believe sex-selective abortions should be illegal.
The motion is a result, says Mr. Warawa, of numerous calls fielded by his office from Canadians expressing concern following a CBC private investigation that uncovered details of ultrasound clinics divulging information pertaining to the sex of the pre-born children for the specific purpose of aborting based on gender.
