Winnipeg, MB – The St. Boniface Cathedral grounds will be covered with 100,000 small pink and blue flags on Thursday, May 12, 2022. “Each flag represents a pre-born children who are aborted in Canada every year. Each flag represents a mother who went through a procedure that is a taxing both physically and emotionally. Each flag represents a father who never got to meet his child. Each flag represents grandparents, aunt, uncles, and community members impacted by that loss. We all lose when it comes to abortions. This flag display is a memorial to that loss especially to the loss of life of the baby in the womb,” explained Tabitha Ewert, legal counsel for We Need a Law a group helping Life Culture Canada with the display.
Although statistics are difficult to confirm with certainty because two provinces censor all abortion information, there are approximately 100,000 abortions in Canada every year. That is the equivalent of about 5,000 classrooms filled with children. Dozens of community volunteers associated with Life Culture Canada and We Need a Law will be setting up the display and talking about pre-born human rights with passersby. “We are doing this to show to our community the momentous impact that abortion has on our community and nation,” explained Ewert. “Each flag represents a tragedy. A tragedy that happens 100,000 times every year. The Supreme Court of Canada, in the 1988 Morgentaler decision, made it very clear that it is Parliament’s responsibility to enact an abortion law. It has been almost 35 years and we still do not have a law.”
“When Canadians are informed that there are no laws, a majority consistently say pre-born children should be protected by the law whether that be by banning sex selective abortion or late term abortion,” Tabitha explained.
We are calling upon our Members of Parliament to do everything they can to protect the human rights of all human beings. 100,000 flags bear witness to these leaders that We NEED A LAW!
